Prom, by Laurie Halse Anderson

I was interested in Prom because I like the author, Laurie Halse Anderson’s, other book Speak. Speak and Prom are totally opposite, and personally I think Speak was much better. Prom is about a girl, Ashley, whose senior prom was cancelled because someone stole the prom money. She and her friends have to plan the first prom their has ever had in years with almost nothing.

The author was good with describing the setting and the people. She describes Ashley’s house, her awful job at EZ-CHEESE, and her school. Although very descriptive, it does not make up for the lack of realness. In the book the main character Ashley comes across as a poser. The way she talks to the way she acts, it just doesn’t seem real to me. I know that someone could really be in the situation she was in but the author tried way to hard to make it sound as though she was real.

Anderson’s Prom, The Verdict

I feel that Prom was a waste of time. If you like dumb book, about dumb girls this is the one for you.
