3 out of 5 stars

Monster is a play written by Walter Dean Myers. It is about a boy named Steve, who is charged with felony murder. The play takes place in a courtroom, and then changes to a diary format. Everyday that goes by, Steve writes in this diary from his perspective.

The book appears long at first glance. It has big fonts and the characters talk to each other through the whole book, which makes this book really short. It is easy to read, but sometimes it is hard to follow, due to the objections made by each side. Then the judge responds, and everyone starts talking back and forth. These actions make it hard to follow if you are reading by yourself.

I liked the book because it was easy to read. I also liked the way the author made it into a play about the trial, which I found very interesting. I thought it was interesting because this can happen in real life. What I didn’t enjoy was the fact that it was a play.
